Independence Rock. This got its name, because wagon trains that
made it here by the 4th of July had a good
chance of making it to the west coast before winter. They used to
celebrate by shooting their rifles instead of
fireworks. We detoured 20 miles off the trail from Muddy Gap to see
this. There are still names and dates
from the pioneers of the 1800's engraved in the rock.
